Inlays and onlays are a natural looking and long-lasting alternative to traditional tooth fillings and crowns.
Benefits of porcelain inlays and onlays
Traditional fillings and crowns correct a variety of problems with teeth, but they do not look natural as they are not white. Inlays and onlays are the ideal alternative. They also repair teeth affected by tooth decay or other types of damage, plus they are long-lasting. Crucially, they are also natural looking so are not obvious.
Inlays and onlays are, therefore, the perfect, aesthetically attractive option.
They are sometimes referred to as indirect fillings as they are not fitted in the same way. A filling is moulded into the affected area whereas inlays and onlays are created in our lab, based on moulds of your tooth. They are made from porcelain or a composite material. Once made we then use an adhesive bond to fix the inlay or onlay into place.
If you have new problems with your teeth, inlays or onlays might be the ideal treatment. Many people, however, choose to replace their old fillings or crowns with inlays or onlays to give them a more natural looking smile.
The main benefits of inlays and onlays are:
- Fit perfectly with the rest of your teeth
- The material used is an exact match to the colour of your teeth
- Gives a natural-looking tooth appearance
- The inlays and onlays don’t become discoloured
- Cleaning them is easy
- They give the tooth extra support
