Our treatment of headaches and migraine
We offer a range of treatments to prevent severe headaches and migraines from occurring, and to relieve the pain when they do.
The medications used in each scenario are different. The options that relieve pain are taken during a headache or migraine so are acute treatments. Examples include analgesics and antispasmodics. It can often help the effectiveness of these treatments if you stay in a dark room after taking them, ideally getting some sleep.
Preventative medications, on the other, are usually taken on a daily basis. They can either reduce the severity of headaches or migraine, or reduce the frequency.
In both types of treatment – pain relieving and preventative – the exact type of medication, dose, and frequency will depend on the type of headaches you suffer from as well as other medical conditions.
Preventative treatments, for example, are usually suited to people who suffer from headaches or migraines that last longer the 12 hours, have at least four attacks per month which can be described as debilitating, and/or suffer from headaches that are not helped by pain relieving medications. You may also be suitable for preventative treatments if you suffer from prolonged periods of weakness, numbness, or aura.
